Mike is the guiding force behind the inspirational community art movement, EvolveArts -- his life's work and ongoing creative vehicle. In 1990 Mike formed EvolveArts to bring provocative public art installations out of galleries and museums and into open, public spaces for everyone to enjoy and interpret. The installations are designed to catalyze action, rekindle human connection and stimulate thoughtful and positive attention on important social issues by weaving together art, culture, community and media in constructive forums.

Today, EvolveArts has grown to provide an interactive cultural forum on the Internet, present thought provoking public art to thousands of people in busy metropolitan areas and produce compelling cultural books and documentaries.

To date, Mike has sculpted seven life-sized statues for the Rising installation, over fifty giant 3 1/2 ft. sand dollars for the Dollars for the Environment project and is currently traveling with Dialogue Project, consisting of nine 7 X 8 foot screens with inspirational quotations and lifecast faces on them.

While continually expanding the scope of these existing projects, he is also working on new projects addressing issues ranging from race relations to economic parity. In addition to lifesized statuary, Mike also creates sculpture pieces from found objects such as one of his favorite mediums: sea shells - including two incredible art cars covered in intircate sea shell mosaics. His work can be found in collections throughout the United States.

Mike graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with honors in the Social Sciences where he focused on studies in art, politics and the media. Mike has explored art and culture throughout the world, but most of his technical training has been acquired through innovation, experimentation and personal experience. As an innovative, contemporary social artist, he has gained critical acclaim from patrons, media and community members alike for his unique and creative vision.

While growing-up I was surrounded by art and the ideal of "living life artfully." This means living each day with enjoyment and appreciating the good and beauty of the world.

Everyone experiences adversity - we all know life can be a struggle - but I feel that through art, friends, family and other personal avenues we can transcend the trials of life and live with true understanding, hope and pleasure... with romance. As provincial Italians would say, "Spretzaturra!" (meaning, the art of being artful). This is the spirit I'd like to cultivate... "
